Fluke's emergency fund

Fluke was terrified and in so much pain when he arrived at our shelter two weeks ago.

Bundled in bandages, the 7-year-old border collie was in shock from being suddenly attacked in his own home by a second family dog.

His previous owner had done her best to create a safe environment for these two dogs, but sadly they just weren’t compatible – placing Fluke in danger.

With the support of our staff, that owner was able to come to the decision to surrender Fluke to receive much-needed urgent medical treatment, allowing her to focus on providing a safe space for her other dog.

Fluke had deep lacerations on his neck and needed immediate emergency surgery.

Our veterinarians worked quickly, cleaning his severe lesions then closing and stitching up his large wounds. They inserted several surgical drains to help prevent fluid build-up and ensure Fluke is protected from infection.

Fluke also had several wounds around his eyes. Our vets sutured those injuries, too, to ensure they heal properly.

Incredibly, this poor boy appears to have survived the attack with little adverse impact to his mental health. Our expert Behaviour Team say he is recovering well and learning to feel comfortable around other dogs again in a controlled and positive way – meaning his prognosis for full recovery is strong.

But Fluke still needs daily care and treatment to ensure his wounds heal cleanly. Our training team is also working with Fluke to ensure he remains mentally well after the attack.

Please, will you donate today to help Fluke get the expert care and attention he needs?

We estimate the total cost of Fluke’s treatment and recovery will be $900.

Can you please donate today to help give Fluke the best chance of recovering and finding the loving forever home he deserves?

* The goal for Fluke’s fundraiser includes surgery to repair his wounds, as well as desexing, vaccinations, microchipping, regular health checks and daily care – which will continue until he’s ready for adoption. If his medical and care costs are less than is raised in his name, additional funds will provide care for other animals in need.
