It began with a report from a concerned member of the public. Inspector Chantel went on to seize 10 French Bulldogs from an irresponsible and unethical breeder. 

Five adults. Five puppies. All of them were extremely thin, dehydrated and overrun with parasites.

But that was only the start. X-rays showed that the three older adults, Mabel, Nana and Butch, had long-term health issues. They’d all inherited traits, common in the breed, that cause breathing problems, mobility issues and spinal abnormalities.

They should never have been used for breeding because those abnormalities would most likely be setting them up for a life of pain and discomfort. With genetic issues, the risk of a short and painful life are real. 

All the dogs needed extensive veterinary treatment, including three-year-old Mabel, who had serious breathing problems. She required an operation to open up her airways to have any hope of a pain-free future.
